Help Us Give Thanks to Our Team Members March 17 – March 21

Join the Blue Bus in celebrating and honoring our amazing transit employees.

What is Blue Bus Transit Employee Appreciation Week?

At the Blue Bus, we know it takes incredible people to keep our wheels turning. Blue Bus Transit Employee Appreciation Week is a special moment each year to recognize the drivers, mechanics, dispatchers, and behind-the-scenes staff who help our community members get where they need to go—safely, smoothly and with a smile.

From early mornings to snowy roads, our team shows up and goes the extra mile (literally!) to serve our communities. This day is all about saying thank you to the people who keep us connected.

Why It Matters

Transit isn’t just about buses—it’s about people. Our Blue Bus team members work every day, making sure you can get to work, school, medical appointments, the grocery store, and back home again. They keep us connected, and when we take a moment to share our appreciation, it reminds them how much they matter to all of us.

“I really like the Blue Bus. I use it to travel around the city of Española and sometimes to go to Sante Fe. The drivers are really courteous and professional. This one time I ordered a personal bus on the MyBlue™ app and my experience was wonderful. I can’t remember the driver’s name but she was so nice. I recommend the Blue Bus to everyone.”

“I love my ride from Las Vegas to Mora. The bus was clean and looked great! I have to use a cane when I am out and all the handicap rails were greatly appreciated. I would use it again.”

“Thank you to everyone that drove me to Taos Ski Valley and back down the mountain safely, you all are the best!”

“Blue Bus is amazing! I took the shuttle up the mountain all the time last year. Love yall.”

“Been riding RTD Blue Bus in Española for 2 years and every bus driver has been friendly professional and courteous, it would be so hard to just pick one or a favorite. Great job to the office staff also for keeping everything operating smoothly. And let’s not forget about the behind the scenes employees that maintain and keep the buses looking new and super clean. There have been so many neighbors, friends and people at my destination asking me how it is to ride RTD Blue Bus, I highly recommend that to you give them a try. If you’re afraid of not getting to your destination, work, appointment-etc on time, do it on a day off just so you can see how convenient it is. They have never once got me to my doctor’s appointment late. I wish I would have started riding RTD Blue Bus so much sooner.”

“Love taking the Blue Bus up to the ski valley! You guys are amazing!!”

The Blue Bus is more than just a transit system. It’s full of people who care about the riders, the community and their fellow employees. I appreciate everyone who shows up to work every single day at the Blue Bus ready to support the community with fare free, reliable and safe transportation. Thank you all!”

Been riding the blue bus for three years. I appreciate you all. All the drivers do an amazing job!!”

Mark on the blue bus going to SkiSanta Fe has been awesome! We are so grateful for this excellent driver, who has been bringing us safe to the ski area each year. He is always on time, always kind and friendly and courageous, driving the bus many times in extremely dangerous, difficult and life threatening conditions. Thank you Mark, we greatly appreciate you!!!!!”

Thank you all for your hospitality and care. Thank you for all the rides. Mostly appreciated. Have a blessed day and God keep you all safe.”

“What I appreciate the most about my job is that I get to clearly facilitate my community’s transportation needs to school, work and medical appointments.

I manage scheduling for MyBlue™ riders, and when I confirm their ride, the relief in their voice motivates me to come to work and assist more individuals with their transportation needs.

“My favorite part of my job is the challenge that comes with learning about the items we carry and that are requested. Another challenge is understanding how the systems we use work together.

I enjoy the work that I do and that motivates me to come to work everyday.”

“The most important part of my job is getting everyone where they need to go safely.

My favorite part of my job is my coworkers. Even after a year of working for the Blue Bus, I still have questions, and my coworkers are always willing to help and set me up for success. We’re like a family.”

“The most important part of my job is safety for my passengers and the vehicle I drive.

My favorite part of my job is meeting the passengers and getting the opportunity to be in the beautiful Taos countryside everyday.”

I started out as a driver and what I liked most then was the bid, every 6 months the drivers bid on new routes. This gives the drivers a chance to bid on something new and change stuff up.

We also have multiple domiciles, things have changed a bit, but at that time I was able to choose between Santa Fe and Espanola. That is harder to do now, but drives do have the ability to switch domiciles between, Santa Fe, Espanola, and Taos. (also, Chama) So if something changes in their life they have that option to move to a position in one of the other areas that we serve.

Last, and my favorite thing about NCRTD is the ability to grow professionally. I started as a driver, then was a lead driver, then a supervisor, and now I am in fleet working as a Vehicle Electronics Technician.”

My favorite part of my job is getting to ride along with the drivers and riders on all the scenic routes we have in northern New Mexico. I also like talking to our riders and getting to know them.

My coworkers and the environment at work keep me motivated to show up everyday. This is the only job I’ve ever had that I enjoy coming to work. There is always something new going on each day.”

Adam Leonard

Human Resources Director

My favorite part of my job is supporting people in realizing their potential. Whether that means helping them navigate their desired career path, providing coaching or mentoring, or even just finding resources or information to help them in their life outside of work. I’m inspired when I can be part of someone’s journey to achieve their goals.

I think if I were to distill my role down to its most critical functions it would be to attract, develop and retain talent for the District. While there is a multitude of initiatives and programs that support those goals, I think one thing that ties them all together is having a culture where people feel supported and appreciated.

My awesome coworkers and the important work we do for the community motivates me to come to work everyday. It is truly and inspiring place to work.”
